Following from our explosive launch in October 2018, we are absolutely delighted to announce that our super smart and lovely Danielle Hamilton has been shortlisted for a Woman in IT Award. Listed as a finalist in the ‘Young Leader of the Year’ category, Dani has been recognised for her stellar career trajectory in the largest tech diversity event in the world.

Since it’s inception five years ago, the Women in IT Awards is a leading initiative from the tech world to address the widespread gender imbalance, where women only presently occupy 17% of IT roles in the UK. Bringing together over 1200 of the industry’s top stakeholders including Oracle, HSBC, Morgan Stanley, Expedia and Accenture, the event amassed over 800 entries across the UK this year.

Closing the gender gap in technology

In a world where only 0.4% of female pupils choose Computer Science as a subject at A-Level, these awards are committed to driving wider awareness of the need for diversity in the workplace, particularly in the areas of IT where there is a notable lack of females in the workforce.

Dani’s submission highlights her impressive career trajectory, where she graduated from the University of Sussex with a Computer Science degree less than a decade ago and, having developed her skills at some amazing organisations, joined us last year as Chief Customer Officer.

“Dani’s commitment to maximising the best use of modern technology at Thrive has been limitless. She has taken our original concepts for a social learning platform and helped us to evolve it into what we now call our Learning Experience Platform,” said Tony Reddington, Managing Director, Thrive Learning.

“I continue to be impressed by Dani’s work ethic and deep understanding of the world of technology. She has been an intrinsic part of the ThriveTribe. Her passion and drive towards modernisation and evolution has made a real impact at Thrive and I couldn’t be more proud to see her recognised for her efforts in this way.”

Paving the way for change

Taking place at Grosvenor House Hotel on January 30th, 2019, the Women in IT Awards is a must-attend event for key influencers in IT. Talking of the event’s growth and success, Nick Ismail, Content Editor for organisers Information age said:

“The Women in IT Awards has grown significantly since its inception five years ago. We have been blown away by people’s passion and enthusiasm for this cause, driving the event to an incredible size of over 1,200 attendees in just a few years.”

“This year we received over 800 nominations, showcasing an amazing array of talent across the UK’s technology industry. All of the finalists deserve a massive congratulations for the achievements that have resulted in them being shortlisted for an award. We can’t wait to welcome everyone for one of the biggest nights in technology on 30 January.”

The ceremony continues to expand in a bid to tackle the lack of diversity problem, which spans way beyond the UK, launching events in both Ireland and San Francisco last year. We’re over the moon for Dani – so please join us in congratulating her for this amazing accolade – fingers crossed she wins!
