Although remote working isn’t new for us at THRIVE, we’ve certainly had to adapt the way we work to navigate this new normal.
Here’s a few lessons we’ve learned along the way that you can apply to your organisation too.
Over communication is ok
Regular updates and check-ins are key to any virtual team. Information changes all the time and we usually use chit-chat and hearsay to keep on top of things when we’re in the office. So we’ve made sure to keep those conversations going, and pick up the phone as much as possible.
It’s all about trust and autonomy
There’s no need to micromanage. Set clear expectations and goals, and give your team the trust and tools to get the job done in the way they prefer to work.
If you have to be more flexible to cater for new challenges, such as childcare, then that’s ok. We take the view that as long as the outputs are there, we leave the inputs to the individual.
Schedule in some self-care
Put people first and don’t forget to ask your team how they’re doing. It’s easy to over work when at home, so put some extra attention into scheduling some well-deserved breaks and self-care activities. We’ve encouraged our teams to share what they’ve been getting up to, to inspire and encourage others to do the same.
Don’t forget the fun
The fun doesn’t need to end. We’ve put extra effort into staying connected and continuing our social activities, for example hosting a fika every week, team beers on a Friday, and we even hosted a company wide virtual pub lunch.
Social and collaborative tools are essential
This crazy time has taught us that tools like an LXP are essential for businesses to, well, thrive. Having a space to share updates, collaborate with employees and access useful content has been so important for us to stay in touch and continue business as usual.
We’re hearing the same from clients too…
“It’s times like these we need to stick together. THRIVE gives us the tools to do that. I don’t know what we would have done without it!”
– Nicola Kilner, CEO & Co-founder at DECIEM
